THE LAST HOUSE ON THE LEFT (R for sadism, brutal violence, disturbing images, profanity, nudity, some drug use)

Wes Craven & Sean Cunningham started a new kind of horror flick that has been imitated for decades. Now writer Carl Ellsworth & director Dennis Iliadis have upped the ante to tell this ugly story about a couple of "nice" people who see how far they can go in extracting revenge on sickies who have harmed their child.

I doubt that Craven ever imagined how low a movie could sink while attempting an update of his techniques. During 110-minutes of depravity, young girls get raped, shot, stabbed while guys get beaten, skewered, dismembered in garbage disposals and tortured in microwave ovens - for starters.

Ironically, the makers of this flick claim they were inspired by Ingmar Bergman's "The Virgin Spring" in the making of this thoroughly repulsive version. Like a tug boat trying to be the Queen Mary.
