Over Thirty-five Years of Adventure Learning
During the summer, more than one thousand participants come to our campus from all over the nation and the world for discovery-based learning. University faculty, graduate students, role models, and other professionals lead hands-on activities, field trips, laboratory experiments, and team projects. Each program is designed to challenge participants and encourage them to explore a world of opportunities.

Experience Adventure Learning
At Summer Youth Programs, you can learn how bridges are made, program a robot, rappel down a cliff, or perform diagnostic chemical tests. You can paint a landscape, backpack through a national park, or cast molten metal. The choice is yours. Our programs include one-week explorations scheduled throughout the summer. You may only attend one exploration per week, but you can register for as many weeks as you like.

Our Programs

Career Explorations
A Career Exploration is an intensive weeklong look at a particular field or area of interest. There are over seventy explorations in six categories to choose from: engineering, science and technology, computers, business, outdoor and environmental studies, and arts and human sciences. You will spend approximately thirty-two hours investigating your area of interest through classroom activities, hands-on laboratory exercises, and field trips.

Competitive Scholarship Programs:

American Indian Workshop
This workshop introduces young Native Americans to the excitement of a college education. Students explore science, math, engineering, and technology while working in small groups, learning problem-solving skills, and investigating careers. Participants interact with role models, gain an awareness of the environment, and explore college life - all while celebrating Native American culture.

Explorations in Engineering
This competitive program targets students from populations traditionally underrepresented in engineering and science (typically minority or economically disadvantaged students). It allows high school students the opportunity to investigate options for college and future careers in engineering. Practicing minority engineers, educators, and university faculty lead information sessions about nine fields of engineering. Each session includes hands-on activities, a team engineering project, and time to interact with role models and talented peers.

Women in Engineering
This highly competitive program provides high school women, academically talented in math and/or science, the opportunity to investigate careers in engineering. Practicing female engineers, educators, and university faculty lead information sessions about nine fields of engineering. Each session includes hands-on activities, a team engineering project, and time to interact with role models and talented peers.

The children and grandchildren of Michigan Tech alumni are eligible for one $50 discount per child each summer for a live-in or commuter exploration. Please include the name of the alumni on the application. After we confirm your information with the Michigan Tech Alumni Association, we will process your discount.
