Network Leaders
As successful alumni you may have lots of other demands on your time, but being a network leader should be fun and not a burden. As a Husky ambassador, you're charged with keeping school spirit alive in your hometowns. A network leader guides a team of local volunteers who build alumni connection and engagement with the university.
A Network Leader is committed to:
Connecting local alumni and community to Michigan Tech, MTUAA and each other- Understanding and supporting Michigan Tech and MTUAA's missions, brand and desired alumni experience.
- Communicating regularly with local alumni, volunteers and MTUAA
- Recruiting new members and volunteers
- Offer diverse programming and maintaining an inclusive and welcoming environment
- Providing a high level of service to alumni
- Being open to try new things to better engage alumni
- Enlisting and building other leaders, sharing responsibility, delegating, and operation with integrity and respect
- Using tools, databases, and reporting mechanisms provided in the network leader website
- Assuring local operations meet expectations and standards for a MTUAA Network
- Leveraging local and MTUAA resources to support the network program
Characteristics and Skills of a Great Network Leader
- A passion for Michigan Tech and MTUAA
- Committed to a network - MTUAA relationship to serve local alumni
- Able to connect with people of different ages and backgrounds
- Interested in building their own and others' leadership skills
- Willing to commit energy and time to doing a good job
- Well-connected, respected, positive presence in the local community
- Energetic, innovative, and willing to try new ideas and learn new things
- Good communicator (willing to delegate)
- Strong organizational skills
- Open to new technology
Specific Network Leader Board Member Responsibilities
Communications Chairperson- Main contact between MTUAA and network
- Update information through the network leader login section of the regional network website to the communication (after discussion with entire network)
- Update HuskyLink Content
- -News
- -Events
- -Main Content
- -Upload Group Photos
- -Post Documents
- Using provided templates
- Create emails
- Create post cards
- Create newsletter
- Request additional event materials (pins, pens, flags, etc)
- Lead overall event programs (Social, Academic, Admission, etc.)
- Communicate event details with Communications Chairperson
- Select committees and/or network leaders for specific events (i.e. one leader for the spring Baseball game and a different leader for the fall football game)
- Work with Scholarship Chairperson to help facilitate scholarship efforts within annual event schedule
- Local scholarships are a great way to connect with the community and create an additional mission and focus for the Regional Network. The MTUAA with help of other successful regional network scholarship programs can assist in the creation and support of a local scholarship fund through the Michigan Tech Fund.
